Aesthetic medicine and cellulite

Oxygen Ozone Therapy

Among the most widespread body blemishes is certainly cellulite. Often experienced by women as a socially debilitating condition, cellulite should not be considered a mere aesthetic issue but a real disease. It is in fact the manifestation of a circulatory disorder: the slowing of blood flow leads to fluid stagnation at the intracellular level and deprivation of nourishment to the subcutaneous tissues. The affected areas are primarily the thighs, hips and buttocks and the most at-risk age is from 30 to 40 years, although today it increasingly appears in younger individuals.

Recommended diets and sports alone are not sufficient to contain the problem and for this reason, the intervention of aesthetic medicine therapies is essential therapies that must necessarily be effective, long-lasting and minimally or non-invasive. Among modern treatments, Oxygen Ozone Therapy has distinguished itself for its specific benefits.

Oxygen Ozone Therapy: what is it

Ozone (chemical formula O3) is naturally known for its filtering function against the harmful action of ultraviolet rays, which makes life possible on our planet. It is a form of pure, unstable and colorless oxygen. The healing properties of ozone therapy have been known for nearly a hundred years (it was used during World War I to treat limb wounds), although its use in medicine has gradually specialized in many fields, including herniated discs, other arthrorheumatic conditions, vascular issues, acne, capillaries and of course, cellulite.

In anti-cellulite treatment, a mixture of oxygen enriched with ozone is used, taking advantage of the gas's property of improving blood circulation and its oxidizing action, which breaks down fatty acids, making them easily absorbable by the body.

The goal of therapy with an oxygen and ozone mixture is precisely to break down the fat in adipose cells and make it hydrophilic that is, water-soluble and thus eliminable through the body’s natural processes. At the same time, ozone has a draining effect on excess fluids, reactivates blood circulation and oxygenates tissues. In this way, the progressive elimination of fat and fluid retention typical of cellulite is achieved, along with the reactivation of healthy blood circulation, which ensures lasting results.

The advantages of Oxygen Ozone Therapy compared to other numerous aesthetic medical anti-cellulite techniques are multiple:

checked icon 1 Natural, non-pharmacological substances are used;

checked icon 2 When properly performed under the supervision of professionals, no side effects occur;

checked icon 3 Aesthetic improvements in cellulite-affected areas occur quickly and painlessly;

checked icon 4 It addresses the root cause, not just the symptoms;

checked icon 5 The cost per session is relatively low.

For these reasons, it is reasonable to say that Oxygen Ozone Therapy is one of the most effective clinical tools in the fight against cellulite blemishes, which affect a large number of women.

Ozone Therapy: how does it work?

The Oxygen Ozone Therapy treatment is performed in an outpatient setting. The medical practitioner uses a 4 mm micro-needle mounted on a syringe filled with a mixture of oxygen and ozone, following precise scientific protocols tested and approved for over twenty years.

Micro-injections of about 5–10 cc per treatment point are performed. Sessions last an average of 15 minutes and for best results, about 10 weekly sessions are recommended, depending on the severity of the issue. Results are visible after 4 weeks of treatment and remain stable over time.

Initially, one will mainly notice aesthetic improvement, but shortly after, there will be a significant reduction in water retention and leg heaviness. The advantage of Oxygen Ozone Therapy is that ozone acts exclusively on the breakdown of fat mass and does not affect lean mass, i.e., muscle. Thanks to modern product administration techniques, this therapy is suitable not only for individuals with cellulite problems but also for those needing to eliminate small areas of excess fat (like love handles, particularly common in men). Patients undergoing Oxygen Ozone Therapy are advised to combine the treatment with a balanced diet and physical activity, to ensure the issue does not recur.

Oxygen Ozone Therapy: side effects and contraindications

The therapy is virtually painless. The only side effects, observed in rare cases and only if the treatment is performed correctly are slight burning sensations that disappear very quickly. No allergic reactions are reported. During treatment, the patient can continue their normal social and professional activities.

Contraindications are limited to pregnant individuals or those suffering from serious cardiovascular, respiratory or hematologic conditions.
